Knights Reinstate Reserve Grade

York City Knights are pleased to announce that following discussion with the Rugby Football League the club will run a Reserve Grade in 2012.

The club had previously taken the decision to disband the team this season, but after discussions between the Knights management and the coaching staff it has been decided that running the second grade team is the best thing for the club.

Commenting on the decision Knights General Manager Ian Wilson said,

“We believe that running a Reserve Grade team is important for the club. We have a large number of quality players who will be on the fringes of the team and it is important that these players get regular game time to help them improve further and put pressure on the players occupying those 17 places in the first team. We also have some very talented players in the Under 18’s Scholarship Squad, who are capable of playing at Reserve Grade Level, and it will be fantastic for their development too”

As the club have not budgeted to run a Reserve Grade 2012 we are going to be looking for the support of local business/individuals to help fund the team. Wilson added,

“We have already had support from Anytime Travel who have agreed to provide transport to away matches in 2012. Travel is one of our core costs so we are extremely grateful to them for this”

The club will also donate proceeds from Lancealotto (Club Lottery) to the Reserves so anyone who is not already a member is encouraged to join, for as little as £1 a week, and help support the Knights stars of the future. Click here to see all the ways you can join the Lancealotto
